While looking up the governing rule on freelancing again this afternoon (sadly, the answer still reads no), I stumbled upon a copy of Peace Corps’ mission statement and its three goals.
Peace Corps’ Mission
To promote world peace and friendship.
(It’s okay to chuckle at that one.)
The Three Goals of Peace Corps
- To help the people of other countries in meeting their needs for trained personnel.
- To help promote a better understanding of the American people on the part of the peoples served.
- To help promote a better understanding of other people on the part of the American people.
Every time I come across these, I feel differently about how they read. Some days I feel proud of my consistency in chipping away at all three goals. Other days, I wonder if I will even accomplish one goal before I finish my service next year.
Maybe Goal Four should read, “to help volunteers silence their disparaging inner monologues.”
